Our challenges
One of the hardest challenges we face is trying to convince the government on how we can be responsible when we are allowed back on the Harbour.Over the years we have been branded with such a bad name. A lot of people discriminate against us.
We understand that there are a few amongst us that do the wrong thing but this is the case with everything in todays society, from young p plate drivers branded irresponsible to jet skiier branded as hoons, in short it falls down to stereotyping.
There will always be the a tiny majority breaking the rules, but what do we ban them completely?
Do we ban all P Platers from being on the road? Even though 90% are responsible?
Do we ban jet boats for irregular driving?
Do we ban families and friends bonding over a barbeque at a local park?
Of course we don't. We understand there are always going to be a small minority causing problems this is why we have laws to issue fines not ban everyone that is outright discrimination and we feel like we have been discriminated against.
We do hope to wipe out the thinking of these people and convince them that riding a Jet Ski in the Harbour is a privilege. We want the community to stop discriminating against the good ones that follow laws and are responsible when out on the water.
Take note:
Having people listen to our side of the story, our opinions, point of views and arguments is the next challenge of ours.
In recent cases when people have approached the governments and representatives they have just turned their heads and didn’t want to hear a thing, most of the time it has just fallen on deaf ears.
PERSISTANCE !!
We just have to keep going, if we get turned away try again. We are not going away.
It’s an issue that is going to be around for a while until someone can stand up and do something about it.
We need to drive our message nice and clear and sensible to the right people.
