Council continues jet ski ban plan
Eurobodalla Shire Council is to push ahead to ban jet skis in six defined areas of the shire's waterways.
Councillors voted at a works and facilities committee meeting yesterday to ask the Minister for Transport to ban jet skis in parts of South Durras, Durras Lake, Broulee Bay, Tuross River and Batemans Bay.
Jet skis will not be banned in areas where they are used by surf lifesaving clubs and Waterways for rescue and safety work.
Sheila Monahan, a spokeswoman for the Jet Ski Free Nature Coast Network, says she was disappointed with the decision not to completely ban jet skis, but her members are still considering the detail of council's proposal.
"We are still convinced the majority of people in the shire would like to see the nature coast jet ski-free and we are still hoping to get that solution in the long run.
"The council told us today that they are looking at this as an interim situation and they are going to form another committee to look at areas where jet skis would be allowed."
